Warning: This Is A Sappy, Sad Post

I wasn't ready to talk about this on the blog {if at all}, but I got a concerned call from Weiser's previous foster mom and it touched me. It was with a heavy heart that I messaged her with the news that he's finally gone, hoping that would be the end of it. I mean, I felt obliged to inform her and thank her for sharing in his life, but I really didn't want to rip the wound open all over again. However, thirty seconds after I hit 'send', she called me and turned it all around. She actually thanked Will and I for giving him a chance when no one else would and reminded me that he had been shuffled through shelters and foster homes for months before we came along. First off, I can't imagine how anyone could say no to this sweet face:

But the most touching thing she reminded me of was that Weiser came into our lives at just the right time. As if he were sent to us, he appeared in our lives just in time to be with me while I endured Will's first deployment. He kept me safe, kept me busy, and gave Will the peace of mind that I wasn't alone. "It's those amber eyes," she said, "those are the special souls that are here to take care of us. Even if that makes me sound batty, it's what I believe."

I'd like to believe it too. I'd like to believe that he was here for a purpose, he fulfilled it, and now he's off to help someone else. In my mind he's the Timothy Green of dogs, and he filled a hole we had in our life that we didn't even know we had. I can only hope that we repaid him with enough love, and at least we can say we spoiled him rotten.

As cheesy as it sounds...we don't save rescue dogs, they save us.

Okay, now that I've cried for the umpteenth time and you probably all think I'm loony, it's time to get to bed. I'm ready to wake up and start a fresh new week, because last week was a doozy.

I just cried my eyes out reading this, but I'm so happy you shared it. Sometimes dogs open up spaces in our hearts that we didn't even know we had. Weiser was an amazing dog and you're right-he's on his next mission to make a difference :) Sending you hugs and love! XO

I am so sorry for your guys' loss. I couldn't imagine losing one of our pups and just the thought has me tearing up. I couldn't agree more that we don't rescue dogs, they rescue us. Sending you both lots of hugs!

I just cried my eyes out! To so many of us our dogs was our first children before we decided to have real live talking children.. But then the great thing was that not only did we love our dogs but our dogs loved our children as much as did..Its almost like they are meant to be big brothers & sisters! Its never easy loosing a loved one & too us that is what our animal was a loved one that we took care of. After all we do feed them, bath them, kiss them, hug them, & so much more.. I am so so sorry sweet girl for you loss but look at it this way he saved you & you saved him..

They truly are the most special little beings on the planet, and they definitely come into our lives just when we need them the most. They nestle right into your heart and heal you from the inside out. I love that you shared this post--it's obvious how much he means to you guys. Sending lots of love your way!

So sorry for your loss. That dog was your family so it doesn't make you crazy that you care so much-it makes you human.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's true that the line between who is saving whom is a blurry one, at best. I'm so glad that you and Weiser were able to take care of each other.

I am so so so sorry. :( My heart is broken for you and Will. We had to put our dog to sleep last March and my whole family still breaks down about it. They definitely become a part of the family.
