Fight Cancer With Exercise

Initially, this post did not involve that bad word cancer, but we found out that someone very close to us has been diagnosed and we are all researching ways to beat it. And beat it we will.

In our research, we were surprised to find that exercise can be huge in prevention, improving physical /immune function, and cut down the chance of recurrence. In case you didn't have enough motivation...your life can now be added to the list.

For me, I now have even more determination for March Madness!

Perception Is Everything

Y'all know I have been getting my fitness on, so I am dedicating today to some goals and to some of the very bloggers that inspire me to work out.

Run three times per week.
Try Zumba {finally}
Work out five days/week.

I was gonna say six, but let's not get too crazy. I want to be able to maintain my interest in exercise, so no need to overwhelm myself. You may also notice that none of my goals {or the girls below} include measurements and/or weight. These days, I go up...I go down, but what matters is that I don't quit, and I don't measure my success by a scale.

Other Updates:
I have actually begun reading the manual {who does that?} of my camera and making notes, but just in case...I have solicited the help of a photographer friend, as well.
The Spring Cleaning has begun. I've cleaned out the fridge, and picked up some organizational stuff from the Dollar Store. A dolla makes me holla!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now let me introduce you to my first Co-Host Duo!
Both bloggers are very inspiring to me when it comes to fitness, and also as people in general. They BOTH happen to be fellow Mil-Spouses, and Meg is even stationed at Fort Carson with us! Don't worry, there is definitely a Yoga blate planned.
Fitness goals for March:
Increase my cardio workouts to start training for hiking up Pike's Peak this summer. Right now due to the weather, I've been doing more strength training than cardio because I'm a wimp when it comes to cold. Brendan and I are planning on hiking the Barr Trail to the top of Pike's Peak once it warms up this summer, so I need to work on endurance to make it up the 13 miles to the top. Luckily for us, we'll be taking the cog rail or a ride from a friend back down, since my legs will be shot.
Ensure I'm getting in 5 days per week of exercise. I get lazy when Brendan is gone in the field during training. I usually get up and go workout when he wakes up for PT. When he isn't here, it's so easy to sleep in, and the later I sleep in, the less motivation I have.
Get the pup as much exercise as myself. I used to take Stone running with me all the time, but now that it's colder, I'm not running. We're not really going for walks too often either, and hitting the dog park maybe once per week. The poor dog is suffering because of my distaste for the cold. Stone typically goes on all of our hikes with us unless the level of technical difficulty is too high, so he needs to get back in hiking shape as well.
Complete the 1000 workout. I was sent this by one of my friends, whose boyfriend does this. It's 10 rounds of 5 exercises, 20 reps each. It's full body and exhausting. My goal is to complete it in under 30 minutes by the end of the month.
March Madness - Fitness to-do list...
- Try a local barre class
- Complete my 30in30 challenge
- Set a 6 mile PR in preparation for next months 10K
- Be at the gym 2-3x's a week, focusing on more cardio and weights
- Look into fitness certification classes for the summer
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm not gonna lie...they make me feel unworthy, but that's okay. Maybe one day, I will be able to hang with them in the gym. Prolly never.

So anywhoo, you have until Friday to link up for the first week, so let's get it on! And just to make sure there is no confusion, you can post about whatever you like goal wise. This is meant to HELP you get things accomplished. Not to make you feel pressured ;)

Hopefully they caught it early...both my mom and grandma are breast cancer survivors. I've been thinking a lot about health lately (and even talked to a genetic counselor about the family history), which is one of the reasons for me wanting to be more healthy overall.

And I've tried Zumba with my sister-it is WORK! Make sure you bring some water, cause you'll need it!

Cancer is a total ahole. I'm sorry someone close to you has been touched. Attitude and support play a strong role. Your loved one will beat it!

cancer sucks. I'm always so sad to hear of it affecting another life. Exercise helps delay, prevent and cure it but support from friends and family is unparelleled. What you and hubs are doing is awesome! Thanks for having me today, it's been fun and I love seeing your goals!! Don't be silly Senorita, we could rock the gym together...anyday!

Oh no, sorry about your friend. Cancer sucks. :(

You will rock these goals and have a great time doing it. I'm excited to hear all about it! :)

Also, I totally read my camera's manual so you aren't alone there, haha!

As a photographer reading your camera's manual is actually a really smart idea and you can learn a ton. Good luck with your goals- you can do it!

Hmmm, I guess I didn't realize this was a link up, where have I been? I've been doing this system called Revolt and it's kicking my butt!

I've been posting monthly goals for almost a year now and it is SO HELPFUL to post them and then recap to be held accountable! Really, y'all should consider doing a monthly goal link up- not just march. A month is a great amount of time because its short enough that you don't put things off (like a new years resolution) but it still gives you enough time to accomplish something and look back to be proud of yourself :)
