The Secret To MY Easy Pregnancy

This post is strictly about my experience, helpful knowledge that I have found, and advice I've been given. There is no denying the benefits of fitness and nutrition, but I realize that every pregnancy is different. Just want to make that clear ;)

I must admit, every time someone has said "Don't be intimidated by the pregnant chick running faster than you" or "You make me feel inadequate when you outrun me", it's a BIG ego boost. Not that I'm trying to outrun anyone these days and I'm certainly not running as fast as I used to, but it's an amazing feeling to be defying everything I've ever heard about pregnancy. I truly believe that between fitness and my healthy eating habits, I have found the formula to the perfect pregnancy {FOR ME} and I think all you non-preggers need to take note before you are faced with morning sickness and back problems. Yup...I've avoided all those pesky symptoms.

The trick is starting these habits well before you get pregnant to have the most effect and to be SAFE.  You want to know the biggest secret? While Will was deployed everyone talked about how easy it is to get pregnant when the boys return, so I started working out with the mindset that if I accidentally got pregnant I would be fit and ready. Some may say that was my biological clock ticking, but all I knew was that I didn't want to end up like friends I've had that were lethargic, miserable, and in some cases bed ridden because their bodies were not 'primed' AS THEY PUT IT. That being said, here's why you should start now and keep going on strong:

1. Any fitness routine for any reason will boost confidence, improve body image, make clothes fit better, and up your immune system along with a long list of miscellaneous benefits. Yadda, yadda, yadda... I know this has been shoved down your throat for years.

2. When you have an established routine, your doctor will tell you to keep on keepin' on if you get pregnant. There are a few restrictions that must be considered, but my OB told me that my pregnancy and labor would be a LOT easier if I was able to maintain a routine. Even if you have to slow down, modify your routine, and take breaks, you are still burning major calories cooking a baby and working out. Matter of fact, they say a pregnant woman laying  on the couch burns more calories than a body builder. Hence why any activity has even more effect than normal. Good bye every ounce of fat and water weight on my body, and hello healthy pregnancy!

3. Just as a good massage helps balance hormones, exercise does too. They say that massage during pregnancy helps to regulate the hormones associated with stress, relaxation, and mood: norepinephrine, cortisol, seratonin, and it has been found that exercise has the same effect! My doctor asked Will if I had any mood swings up until five months and he really couldn't think of any. Sure I've gotten a tidge bit weepy lately, but 99% of the time I'm overly happy and 'love everything', i.e. the watermelon cake, how nice people are to pregnant women, how sweet my husband is, etc...I can even tell a difference between the hormones when I work out and the recovery days. Plus they say the regulation of these are said to help with complications throughout the pregnancy and leads to an easier delivery. Please be true...please be true!!

4. Remember I mentioned water weight? The fluids that you gain during pregnancy are actually what make women 'blow up' {well, other than ice cream and other terrible cravings}. Your body DOUBLES the levels of blood and other fluids to make a baby, so between that and natural water retention you can easily feel bloated and even develop pregnancy complications. But alas, there is hope! Even 'easy' pregnancy friendly exercises that have never exercised before can prevent water retention. I had feared this the most, because honestly, I've always retained water. Other than detoxes and clean eating, I've never even seen my abs or my real arm muscles, but now that I'm working out while pregnant I've dropped EVERY BIT of water weight I carried! If that's not a good enough reason to get going, then I don't know what is.

5. I don't know if this is concrete fact, but I read that nausea could be associated with sugar levels, and that makes sense to me because I've been managing my Hypoglycemia for seven years with fitness and nutrition and I never even got nauseous once. I also think that these practices have had some effect on controlling my cravings and allowing me to make healthier choices, which could be the magical combination for an 'easy pregnancy'.

Now I know this sounds unappealing and daunting to those that aren't about that 'fit life', because I was you a few years ago, but I can promise you that if you get pregnant you will regret not getting started as you think of this post if you are part of the unlucky group that lives in the bathroom and simultaneously gains 60 pounds. More importantly, think of your baby. I could care less about these bonus benefits because I know that I'm being healthy for her. This is also why you need to speak with your OB about your personal fitness and know how to do it safely. As much as I LOVE running, I made the decision yesterday that I ran my last mile of this pregnancy. It's putting stress on my lower abdomen even with a maternity support belt, so I'm sticking to core workouts to keep her safe. My motivation is to be the best wife and mother that I can be physically and mentally, and I'm completely okay with that.

Until getting pregnant, I would look in the mirror and see things I still needed to work on. Now, I look in the mirror and think "Look how my hard work has created the perfect vessel for my baby." Because I sweat, she will be healthier, because I condition, she will be stronger, because I am dedicated, she will enter this world ahead of the game, and that's what keeps me going.

PS. I am very interested in hearing experiences of other pregnancies out there, good and bad! Especially personal experiences, and how it affected your labor and delivery.

I'm Feeling the Effects Of The Holidays...Already

I don't know about you, but I'm really feelin' the effects of all the candy and sweets from last week. I kept telling myself, "You'll have time to work it off before family pictures at Thanksgiving", and now I'm regretting that. Especially since I'm limited in my workouts with tendinitist in my wrist AND a new tattoo on my foot which impedes my running.

A photo posted by Janna renee (@jrbogert) on

In the nick of time, sweet Meghan told me about a #21 Day Challenge she is hosting with Herbalife, and she generously said that we could jump in late. So I'm wondering who wants to do it with me? It's basically for anyone wanting accountability while developing a new habit.  It's super simple-- order a container of Formula 1 (Meal Replacement Shake) in your favorite flavor, and then snap a photo of you + your shake DAILY for 21 days and share it on social media with the hashtag #alive21dayshakechallenge or just tag Meghan in it as proof. If we complete all 21 days, we will a) lose those sneaky lbs. and b) receive a coupon code for a discount off our next purchase. They are already $1.59 a shake waaaayyy less than shakeology, so a discount on top of that is pure insanity.

If you really want to go all in, Meg has a four week weight loss challenge buy-in that you can do with or without purchasing a dang thing!  It would be $35 to enter and $30 goes into a pot to be split among the winners. You get FREE nutritional info three times/week, weekly weigh ins, and you can lose the weight ANY way you want. They even have a sweet BMI/Protein Calculator that can tell you EXACTLY what you need to do to lose weight, and if you talk to Meg she has so many resources to help us. Who doesn't love free nutrition advice?

For me, it was a toss up between Pumpkin Spice and Pralines & Cream, which are the two most popular limited editions. In the end, I knew I could make a LOT of yummy recipes with the Pralines, so that's what I picked. Normally, I prefer whey protein {which they have} for after workout, but as a meal replacement, soy protein works just fine and that's what I was going for.

I can already say, I do NOT regret my decision. I haven't even gotten to all the recipes I found on Pinterest, and I'm already loving it. Exhibit A, is the Caramel Apple smoothie I whipped up. Tell me that doesn't sound like heaven. Having delicious options AND good nutrition that helps you with your goals feels like cheating.

Okay, so let me know if you are in. I need some amigos for inspiration, and helping you stay motivated is the best motivation for me. I'm willing to go above and beyond to help anyone that joins us, and Meg is AWESOME when it comes to this stuff. Email her IMMEDIATELY if you want to do the #21daychallenge, or just email her if you have any questions <megiles09@gmail.com>. I guarantee she will hook you up.

What The Hell Pinterest?

I was simply searching for arm exercises, and the next thing I knew, I feel like I'm going to throw up. I clicked on the following pin, and couldn't believe that it led me to a side of Pinterest that I have never seen. A dirty, scary side.

I'd like to keep Pinterest pretty clean in general, but there should not be a question as to whether  media promoting Eating Disorders are allowed. Freedom of Speech, shmeedom of shmeech, that doesn't apply when it's an influential site pushing ED on easily influenced pinners, and this isn't speech, it's just pictures! Pinterest may not be 'pushing' it exactly, but they obviously aren't stopping it.

How has Pinterest allowed media pushing Eating Disorders to run so rampant? Has there been no uproar about this? I hope I'm not the only one asking these questions, and I hope that something can be done. I am a Pinterest addict just like everyone else, but it's hard to support any site that 'supports' self harm directly or indirectly.

But let's not end on the negative. I was also inspired by Colbie Caillat's video that tells us all we are beautiful just as we are. It got me to thinking that we all have insecurities, and yet we think that our insecurities set us apart. How can that be if we all have them, and why do we always focus on our negative attributes? I still don't know the answer to that, but I think we all need to quit thinking that our 'problems' set us apart, and realize that it's our talents, hopes, and dreams, that make us special. You know I'm right.

If anyone has any suggestions about how to get Pinterest to remove all the horrid images, feel free to share. For now, I just hope I don't seem crazy for getting upset about this. Please tell me I'm not crazy, even if we all know I care too much at times.

My Three Favorite Pizza Tricks

Well, Top'O The Mornin' To Ya.
I think that it is a crime for St. Patty's Day to fall on a Monday, but I'm sure we all made up for that ahead of time. Not only did we have that McGuire's 5K; I went to a festive luncheon, and it was my very first Military Spouse event, as a matter of fact. One might say I'm a slacker of a military spouse for waiting four years to do this, but if you new what I had to work with at our last unit, you would understand.

Anywhosit, I was just as nervous as one might assume an introvert walking into a room full of powerful women would be, so I started planning my outfit out a week in advance. Although, the only thing I knew I wanted to wear were these egg shell tights. Don't ask me why I wanted to wear them, just tell me they're pretty. Please.

Now, I'm happy to report that they welcomed me with open arms, and I had a blast. There were Commanders wives, Mayors wives {from the surrounding towns}, veteran Flight wives, and new to Flight wives like myself, and everyone chatted it up like we were all equals. Yes, technically wives don't wear rank like their soldiers, but I know I sure as heck wouldn't approach a Commander's wife out of turn.

I can't wait to go again for just the food, but the Bingo and door prizes were pretty fun too. Speaking of food, we made pizza this weekend, and I thought I'd share my favorite tips for at home pizza. Whether you make your own crust/sauce or buy it, these tips are sure fire.

1 | ALWAYS buy fresh pepperoni from the deli. It will have so much more flavor, and you can use it for the pizza or to jazz up your sandwich.

2 | Whether you make or buy sauce, include: Smoked Paprika, Garlic Powder, and Powdered Ranch. Adding these will always ensure the best flavors. Sugar isn't a bad idea either. I personally love sweet and spicy red sauces, so sugar and cocoa powder are staples.

3 | Broil the cheese for the last minute or two. If you take a look at the Papa John's we got recently, you will see the bronzed spots on the cheese. Those little spots change the entire flavor of the pizza, and look pretty fancy too. I actually did it by accident one time, but now I do it religiously. Just try it and thank me later.

I know you came for the yumminess, but a few healthy tips too:

4 | NEVER use White Wheat. You are already eating gobs of cheese, so make sure you start it off with a healthy wheat. Even if you don't make it from scratch, you can find pre-made whole wheat crusts these days or make the Cauliflower crust you see floating around Pinterest. It's actually good.

5 | Whether you load your pizza up with veggies {onion, bell peppers, artichokes, spinach, olives, basil, etc} or have a salad, always supplement so that you don't have to gorge yourself on pizza. Just make sure it's a yummy salad, or you will say screw it and have another slice. Pizza is good for the soul, so enjoy {in moderation}.

Today, I will be making Corned Beef and Cabbage in celebration since getting drunk until 4AM isn't an option. We actually love cabbage, so any excuse to eat it is good for us. Whether y'all party it up tonight or enjoy it low key, Happy St. Patty's day to you all!

I Got Naked!

But I'll get to that in a minute. Unfortunately, I can't talk about what I really want to talk about, so we are gonna take the easy way out and play Random Wednesday.

+ I caved. I bought a Naked Palette, and am absolutely loving it!
The Too Faced palette was lacking the intensity that I was looking for, but the Naked palettes are known for theirs. My goal was to find a palette that didn't have a lot of matte shades, it needed to have mauves/browns/golds, and would be versatile enough to cover all of my needs. I think I've reached my goal, and it even came with a double sided brush! Those suckers can run up to $30! I would have paid the $50 even without the brush, but that just made me feel even better about the purchase, as I planned on paying the extra money for a double sided brush already.

+ I'm realizing that I'm growing up...A few years ago I would have NEVER paid that amount of money for makeup. I'm still going to use my Covergirl for the rest, but my eye shadow will make up for it.

+ Our hotels are booked for our trip, and I even got a Military discount at the W for HALF OFF. I almost peed myself when the guy told me, and especially since I was about to shell out $300 for the room.

+ I have practically been on a popcorn diet. It's Gluten Free, you can get your fill without consuming too many calories, and these days, it comes in a million flavors.
I want to make dis:

+ I've noticed that Pinterest has changed things up, so I'm having to relearn to do things. Like for the life of me, I could not figure out how to embed pins into a post with the new interface. Hopefully someone will write up a tutorial soon...Anyone?

+ Now that I'm not getting paid to be in a bikini, I do not have the same motivation as a few weeks ago. I am happy to say that I am still working out every day; I'm just not pushing myself as hard or eating as well. I guess you could say that I'm giving my body a little break.

Mal Smiles

I am still allowing Jillian Michaels to kick my booty, but I need to get back to running. I'm actually trying to get used to running indoors and outdoors, so that I can run on vacation. I know, I know, exercising on vacation sounds awful, but not to me. The thought of not exercising for ten days gives me palpitations. Just call me addicted.

This particular workout is the one that gave me abs. I totally recommend it if you are ready to get your butt kicked. It's not near as bad as Insanity, but it can and will give you the results you've been looking for. Even if I can't make it to the gym, I can't find and excuse to say no to Jillian.

Well, today is kinda my Monday, so it's past my bed time. It just better go by fast, because next week I get paid to go to Denver! Hello...mini workation.

Laters...

Before and Afters. I Dominated.

I am so happy to be able to say that I DOMINATED this Cleanse. After five months of working out, this was the BEST way to get me to where I want to be.

I actually took this on Thursday, but haven't had a spare moment to take another. I totally planned on wearing the same outfit and making the pictures all pro, but sometimes plans don't work out. Just take my word that I look the same. I basically peaked here, and I'm totally okay with that.

I've learned a lot since this new hobby began, but it has been worth every morning workout, every drop of sweat, and every healthy choice I have made. I know people always give me shit for not having a "ton" to lose, but sometimes loosing a few pounds is harder than losing fifty pounds. I wasn't actually trying to lose weight, but I'm happy I did because now you can actually see the muscles that I have worked so hard to get!

I think I've made it clear that I'm an AdvoFan now, and I am definitely still spreading the word on how great this is. It is extremely mild, you can still eat {clean}, and you are in control of your results. Will ate well with me, which really helped, and we created some awesome new meals that will be sticking around even after the cleanse. I don't "crave" anything anymore, so it definitely reset my system, and working out just made the results that much better. Like I said, YOU are in control of your results!

Here are some awesome meal plan links that I used:

Raven is hosting the link up today and she had amazing results. I'm still getting inspiration from everyone that participated to keep going. I don't know if I can maintain these abs forever, but I can most certainly keep getting my fit on, and fit feels soooo good. Now I'm off to Fort Collins for the day. I will admit that after the shoot...I am totally going to stuff my face. Don't judge me.

Who's With Me? Curing #NOtivation

*WARNING*
We only have 18 days until we have to don bikinis for the 4th of July!

Mal Smiles

I know you are going to call me a flip flopper for saying that I don't like cleanses...buuuuut...that was before I realized that I have fifteen days until I shoot for a calendar. Oh, and I have been eating ice cream, pizza, and burgers. What was I thinking?

I had heard of Advocare through Nikki {whom I trust a lot}, but didn't give much thought to the Cleanse and talked smack about cleanses. However, I recently read more info about them and found that there are healthy versions and this one happens to be one of them.
I like it because it makes sense. Your body needs fiber, your body needs Probiotics, your body needs raw/unprocessed foods, and sometimes we just need the inspiration to commit to something and the moral support to stick to it! For 10 days and only $31.50, we can all lose up to 10 POUNDS. Can I get a "HECK YEAH!"?

Here are success stories from your fellow bloggers
{Cuz you know we all need proof}

I actually saw that Raven was doing it but I knew that I couldn't make the June 24th link up date. Luckily, Sarah came to the rescue and is giving us our own date! If you order in the next couple days {by the 17th or so}, we can start before the 24th and all link up on July 3rd. I knew that was the PERFECT time for the cleanse, because then we will all look great in our bikinis for the 4th festivities!

#1 Order your bikini prep, I mean Cleanse. I hear the Peaches and Cream is the only way to go, and that Spark is the best way to amp up results.
#2 Tell me you are in and join the Facebook page.
#3 Claim your spot on my sidebar!
I have decided that anyone who decides to support me by joining in, will get to be on my sidebar for FREE!  Just make sure you order your product by the 18th to qualify.
#3 Get your prep on, so that the process is smooth as possible. For example, I have made a checklist/meal planning guide that I will be happy to send to everyone as soon as you've ordered, and there is an even more fabulous set of guidelines under the "Files tab" that just got uploaded to the Facebook group via Sarah.

I have been keeping a food journal for the last week and that has already helped get me back on track. I just read that it's good to prepare for a cleanse by eating healthy so that it's not a complete shock to your system, and luckily that's what I've been doing. I think I've already gotten past the cranky, headachy, blah phase, so now I'm ready to dive in! Did you know that the cranky/blah phase is a good thing? I thought that it meant my body was missing something, but it actually means that it's ridding itself of the toxins coming out. I definitely didn't mind the bad when I knew it was a good sign.

But if that's not enough inspiration, then you need to check out Curing #NOtivation with Mal SmilesThe Pink Growl, and Life: Oceanside. For the simple fact that we all do better with inspiration/motivation, this is a GREAT idea.

Don't make anymore excuses. It's time to make the choice to be healthy, and no one can make that but you. I have faith in you!

Will Passed His Test!

TGI...W?
This week, I'm just happy that it's halfway over, because my stress is almost over! Next Tuesday should be my LAST managing shift, so it will be back to 25 hours/week and normalcy. No more stress for Will, no more stress for MEEEEEEE.

+ You might have noticed that I've been talking about Will studying lately. It has basically taken up all his spare time, but hallelujah, it paid off! I think I was more of a wreck than he was waiting for the results. I knew that he would pass, but I also knew that he wanted to score high overachiever. He did extremely well, and hopefully it will help his dreams come to fruition. It's amazing to see him working so hard toward something. Hard work WILL pay off, and no matter what, he is going places ;)

+ It would have been nice to celebrate last night, buuuuut...
A normal job let's your husband come home for dinner. The Army had my husband crawling into bed at 2 or 3AM. - all I know is that I was asleep. Poor thing, I hope he has today off, and at least he's getting to sleep in.

+ I got my costume mostly done for the pageant, and I feel pretty dang crafty. I made angel wings from SCRATCH, like bending wire and e'rythang. That was the last piece of the puzzle, so now I'm pretty much ready for tomorrow. Thank goodness.

+  The last and most annoying, is that I tend to bloat.
And not just the "Omg! I'm so blooooaaattted" where people overeat and blame it on the bloat. I seriously get a ball in my midsection and I HATE it. I have been trying to blame it on anything and everything:

 photo IMG_7312_zps660233d2.png

Obviously, I'm not pregnant, so it's time to nail down the culprit.

So here is what I'm doing this week:

1. Going GLUTEN FREE. So far it's WORKING!
2. Cutting back the calories.Trying for somewhere between 1,200-1,500.
3. Avoiding processed, spicy, and anything containing sugar alcohols.
4.No alcohol
5. No gum.

It's only been three days and I'm really seeing and feeling a difference. I hadn't put much stock in the whole Gluten Intolerance thing, but I think I'm jumping on the bandwagon. If anyone is interested in more about my Gluten free results, lemme know. I'll be happy to share!

I'm trying to learn as much as I can about it, and I trust y'all more than the interweb ;)

Get It Right, Get It Tight!

I am feeling more at peace today.

+I made it through yesterday without any major issues for the first time in awhile.
+I got some training out of the way, so that I made it home at a reasonable time.
+I gave my body a rest, and didn't hit the gym for the first time in weeks
"recovery time" makes me sad and antsy
Who am I?
+Hubs and I agreed to eat out minimally for the next three weeks, and maybe even throw in some extra gym time. That equals possible two-a-days...I think we are going crazy.

Why the insanity, you ask? It's Pageant time.
One more pageant, and possibly the last one, because I'm getting to old tired of the pomp and circumstance. I know that I'm not going to win this one, and probably won't even place because this one is all for show. Political, one might say, but I'm okay with the politics because there is a GOOD chance that one of my girlies is going to take home the crown.

Mark my words, this girl is going to win:

 photo 564993_998245386415_128175862_n.jpg

I still have to put my best foot forward, though, which means it's crunch time!

The plan is to continue the workouts, and High Intensity Interval Training like the one below.

I am seriously OBSESSED with the interval workouts, and highly recommend them. It is like they are a magic combination, and you see/feel almost instant results.

However, as great as the workouts are, it all starts in the kitchen. Or in our case, the grill. We plan on grilling meat and veggies for most of our dinners or even just snacking for dinner instead of having large meals. We both eat a good bit during the day to sustain energy and keep the food monsters at bay, so at night we really don't need as much food.

And since I haven't shared any "Secret Ingredients" for awhile:

Salsa...It just may be one of the most fabulous condiments in the world.
It obviously goes hand in hand with any Mexican dish.
It is not just for chips. I've been known to dip zucchini, carrot medallions, or red bell pepper in it. I love dipping veggies into my veggies. WinWin.
And my new fave... using it in lieu of dressing on a salad.

Something like this:

You can customize it however you want, but I like mixed greens, pico de gallo, black beans, corn, cheese, hot sauce, and of course SALSA! It's a party in your mouth, filling, and yet low calorie. Just try it, and you will be hooked. I also recommend keeping it mind when you go out to eat. Sub the salsa for calorie laden restaurant dressing, and you will honestly shave off 500-600 calories from those seemingly "healthy" salads. You. Are. Welcome.

Now wish us luck on the next few weeks ;)

Still Prayin' For A Miracle

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for the comments, emails, text messages, Facebook messages, phone calls, and PRAYERS that we received over the weekend. I apologize for being so crass on Friday, but you all know me and know that I was just overly emotional. Well, I guess not "overly", as my emotions were quite valid, but you know what I'm sayin'.

Thursday night, I got a call from my friend Simon who filled me in on what was going on with Lauren. For the past few months, she has been putting on a brave face for us while her cancer came back aggressively. After beating it twice, it came back with a vengeance. The doctors say that it has gotten into her bones, which is what determined the expiration date on her life, and all we are left to do is hope for a miracle.

I don't know what the near future will hold, but I know that Lauren is still fighting, and that she has many, many people full of prayer and love behind her. The outpouring of love is strengthening to us all, and I know that it ain't over until it's over.

 photo IMG_8073_zps4f4e039d.png

I feel like I bounced back and forth through all the stages of grief between Thursday and Friday, but I finally realized that I need to be strong, because this isn't about me or any of us that care for Lauren. This is about her five year old son that may lose his mommy, a mother that may lose her daughter, and a young woman that has fought so hard to hold on. Now, it's just time to be there for her in whatever capacity we can.

I've realized that Lolo would smack me if she saw me grieving before she's gone.
She's going to want us to act as normal as possible and to make sure we live our lives to the fullest. This is how I relished going to work on Friday where I could clear my head, I enjoyed some girl time, and then had a nice relaxing weekend with Will. Allow me to illustrate.

1. The hubby with his sexy beer belt, pooper scoopin' the yard. Redneckonize.
2. The girl who got me through Friday at work. She may be the funniest chick I've ever met.
3. Hubby made dinner, and then it was beer and a movie.
4. I timed myself on the jogging track. I guess I ran my aggression out for that mile.
5. The beer we had. I wouldn't buy it on the regular at $13 a bottle, but it was definitely delish!

photo smoothies_zps40de67e1.jpgSorry for not numbering these, but I was lazy.
Left to right: Will doing TRX, Saturday's smoothie using Wheat Grass, my new favorite recipe, the family that enjoys green smoothies together foofs equally.

I am happy to have finished out the 7 Day Green Smoothie Challenge, and roped Will into sharing the last smoothie with me. He's all about vegetables, and is not really a sweets person, but even he was intrigued by my final smoothie...Basil Pineapple ;) How does one decide to use Basil in a smoothie? One purchases waaaaay too much Basil because it was on sale. Luckily, it was meant to be, because this was my FAVORITE smoothie of the week! It makes at least two servings, though, so keep that in mind. Original recipe here.

So the moral today, is that perception really is everything. I'm choosing to press on, and live life for Lolo. Each day is a blessing to us all, and accepting things as they come is the only way that we can attempt to find peace. I just hope the big man upstairs isn't ready for a boisterous Staten Island girl, so that we can get the most of her down here.
 Only time will tell.

Linking up with KristineKatherineSami, and Leeann.

Have you ever...

Brushed your teeth, so that you wouldn't keep eating?
Had a 'night in' at the hotel and watched cartoons on vacation?
Thought you won a giveaway, but then realized you were CC'd in an email to the actual winner? {I got all kinds of excited, let me tell you}
Had Cottage Cheese in your smoothie?

I hope I'm not the only one, and especially when it comes to Cottage Cheese in a smoothie. I know it sounds weird, but it gives them JUST the right creaminess and helps you feel fuller longer. Between that and learning to blend the spinach first, this smoothie turned out perfect. I think Will was even surprised how good it was.

I'm also here to announce our Origami Owl winner!
I probably would have taken a break today, but I have to let Miss Kait know that she won so that she has time to get her order in for Mother's Day! Or just for herself, because I won't judge her or any of you if you order one for yourselves ;) I think EVERY girl needs one!

Congratulations, beautiful!

Now tell me...have you ever?

The Magic Bullet Is Not A Sex Toy, As Far As I Know...

I can't even tell you how awesome this weekend has been, and the best part is that it isn't even over yet! That means that I am blogging from the Business Center of our hotel, because I just can't stay away.
Unfortunately, you will just have to wait till our weekend is finito in order to get the full recap, but for now I will share a picture from brunch Sunday:

Yep, that's right. We had the pleasure of Miss Sami's company!
I wanted Will to meet her, she knows all the Denver hot spots, and I could talk to this girl for hours, so of course we had to invite her to brunch. As always, we had a fabulous time and she picked the BEST place. Don't worry, there will be more about that later too.

In other news...
You know I want nothing to do with fad diets, crazy cleanses, or pretty much anything other than healthy lifestyle changes, but this 'challenge' appealed to me because it is simply adding one green smoothie per day. Oh, and because it gave me an excuse to buy a Magic Bullet!
Contrary to popular belief Cough Raven Cough, it is NOT a sex toy...in case you were wondering.

You probably don't know this, but I'm a smoothie queen. I have been playing around with recipes for years, so this is going to be a refreshing week for me. After all, that's what it's all about. A refreshing Spring challenge to feed the body and mind. Or just an excuse to drink yummy stuff.

Are you playing along with us?
Make sure and visit Kristine and Katherine to join in the fun.
Link up your weekends with Sami and Leann.

Curse You Jillian Michaels

When I developed Hypoglycemia I changed my whole diet and lost weight. I maintained that weight easily with my new "lifestyle" so last time I tried to start working out, I quit the second I started gaining weight. Now, I know this was just the beginning where your body is taking in more fuel and your muscles are bulking up, so I wasn't really gaining weight, but I quit anyways :( I figured that since I could maintain by not working out, it wasn't worth the effort.

For whatever reason, I became inspired to go to the gym with Will on the weekends and enjoyed our time together, but now it has turned into more. I don't feel like it's a chore, and even now that I am at the point where I quit last time, I still want to keep going.

I'm really doing this...

I have been going to the gym three times a week.
I've been legit running at least six miles per week.
I have a Pinterest board titled No Pain, No Gain.
And Will even called me a gym rat ;)

Saturday, I took my physical fitness to the next level by introducing myself to Ms. Michaels for the first time. I thought that I could handle her videos for sure.
Those of you that have used her dvds are probably laughing at me right now...

OwOwOwOwOwOwOwOwOwOwOwOwOw... Ow.
But seriously...how does one continue to follow her program if they are so sore they can't walk?

I would really like to continue with these, since I bought a Groupon with three of 'em, but I don't know how you keep at it if you need two days worth of recovery after each workout.
Please...someone tell me that it gets easier.

So I guess, I should post some stats?
27
5'3.5 (the .5 totally counts)
Current weight 114
BMI: 20.1
Arms: 10 Bust: 34 Waist: 28 Hips: 34 Thighs: 20

I actually don't care of any of these numbers change.  I guess I wouldn't mind if the hips go up and the thighs go down, but this new hobby of mine isn't about "losing" weight; it's about being healthy and getting to eat whatever I want. Yes, I would like to tone up, and I absolutely want to take charge of my metabolism before age does, but I'm keeping long term goals so that I don't get frustrated.

One more thing, you should check out Nikki's post about workout myths. This girl has an amazing weight loss story, and she inspires me constantly. Also read Does This Uterus Make Me Look Fat if you want some real perspective and a good laugh.

According to Wikipedia I am a "Banana Shape" and that will just not do. My nickname may be Banana, but that does not sound like a good body type.  Now if only I could send all the fat cells to my hips...

Inspire Me: Healthy, I Worked Out!

Well...maybe not technically.

Dont Quote The Raven
What really happened:
Was that I worked my arms out using the pruning shears.
(I was too lazy to mow, so I spruced up)
(I know I said I would pay someone to mow, but we all know I'm cheap stubborn and won't)
And I fast-walked down and up the Mesa when I walked the dog.
I even put on my new Nike's.
See?

Photobucket

I'm awkwardly holding my head to the side to try to show you the Chevy sign on the hubby's hat I wore, but I didn't do to well. Whoops. Oh and the little spot on my new shoes?
Blood, because I can't do yard work without hurting myself. #fail

Even if it's not technically working out, I totally worked up a sweat and got the blood pumpin'.
That's what matters, right?
Let's just hope it helped negate the fact that I pigged out at Old C's on Sunday night after the contest. I'm 115 right now, which is fine, but I'd like to be at 112 on Friday for the next contest.
It might not happen, but the good news, is that I think the extra three pounds are in my butt, and it is looking mighty perky with this Mesa walkin'. Not gonna lie...I'm diggin' it.
Will also said he likes me at this weight because my boobs are bigger.
I believe the boobs part, but other than that, he doesn't notice my weight changes. Haha.

To be honest, I'll be glad to have a break in the contests.
It's actually EASIER for me to be healthy when there isn't any pressure on.
You always want what you can't have, so next week when it doesn't matter what I eat?
I will probably end up eating healthier than I have in months.
It's all a mental thing. Don't you hate when your brain plays tricks?

But there is one thing that I want you all to remember:

Nothing will ever be good enough if you don't make peace with your body.
Don't waste energy being unhappy with your weight. Love yourself and then you can focus your energy on being healthy and reaching goals.

So how did we do on last week's challenge?
Did anyone actually stick it out?
Anyone wanna go for round #2?

Tomorrow, I will try to recap the last contest and my weekend! I'll only be a few days late, but Monday ended on a sour note, as you know. I promise that it will be worth it :)
