The Real Military Wives Of Blogland...We Ball So Hard

Today is one of the most exciting days of this Military life we live, because the day of Will's WOCS graduation is officially here! That also makes today the perfect time to celebrate the life we live with Samantha and Mallory, as they try to break the stereotypes that we Military Spouses are inundated with. As Sam puts it, Most people think military wife? You must be overweight, cheat on your husband, have 800 kids, and wed straight out of high school. Yes, this applies to some people I've come across during my time as a military spouse but majority of the time, this couldn't be further from the truth.

Mal Smiles

Those of you that have been around here for awhile know that Will and I don't fit into any of those stereotypes, and those of you that are new? Well, let me tell you a bit about our story. Meet Mr. Bogert via 2010 Basic training...

But really, we should go back a bit farther than that. I am originally from Pensacola, Florida, and I wanted to get the heck out of that 'Military town', heading straight to Florida Atlantic University post high school. About two years in, I happened to work with a cute boy named Will, and whodathunk, my life changed forever. He always knew that he wanted to be in the military, and I always knew I never wanted to leave Florida or date a military guy, so obviously, we were a match made in heaven.

Long story short, after two years of dating, I was ready to sign my life away right along with him, so he enlisted, he put a ring on it, and we eloped surprising no one.  Since then, we've been stationed in Georgia, Colorado, and now Alabama, and {other than the actual moving process} we love every minute of it. One day we may have kids, but for now? Raising my 29 year old man-child  and six year old fur-child are MORE than enough.

Now, we are only supposed to share one thing that we wish people knew about being a military spouse, but I could share pages worth of 'things' you should know. In order to maintain brevity, you should check out 35 Things We Want Civilians To Know, and then I'll just tell you that when you truly love someone, it doesn't matter where they work, where you will have to move, or how much time you will have apart. Sure, I could pick a guy that had a stable job, but there is no one else in the world I could love the way I love him. Somedays, I feel like I was meant to be a military spouse, and others, I was just meant to be his wife. I live a life I swore I wanted no part of, and now I wouldn't trade it for the world. You either satisfy your heart or your brain, but you really can't be happy unless you lead with your heart.

At the end of the day, we are just two people in love that live for each other. Take away the Military, the deployments, the stress of this high speed life, and we are no different from anyone else. The funny thing is, I wouldn't have picked this life six years ago, but now... I don't think I could ever go back to a 'normal' life. Home is where your heart is, and right now this #milspouse is heading to watch her heart become a Warrant Officer!

Wish me luck that I don't fall on stage when I pin on his new rank ;)

Such a sweet post. :)

It's funny, I've never had the experience of meeting the stereotypical military wife. All the ones I know are incredibly smart, talented, hard working people who are equally as driven as their spouse. I think you fit that type more :)

I think that ratio of people who thought they would/wanted to be in a military relationship to people who were initially opposed is 95:5! Lol I know that was the case with me, but when it's true love it's true love! Enjoy your man :)

Gosh darn it I love you. Coming from a military sister, I know its rough and a sacrifice, but you do it so well. Have fun today and even if you trip, you will be the best looking woman there!

I think it is great that you want to break the stereotypes of military spouses. I do have to admit that I never once thought about the stereotype Sam shared. I always thought military spouses were tougher than most and definitely do it for love. Obviously there is always an exception, but you two are great. :)

Love this!! Haha the end made me laugh because when I pinned my husbands wings on, all I could think of is not falling down or up the stairs on the stage. Haha. Thankfully neither happened.
Is your husband at Ft. Rucker? My brother-in-law became a Warrant there last summer and then this past week graduated and received his wings as an apache pilot.

And I totally understand your sentiment. I pushed my husband away for so long because I did not want this lifestyle. But I couldn't deny my heart. After 5 years of long distance we married, spent 2 years in Milton, FL (yippee!) and are now in Jacksonville :)

I said almost the exact same thing about how we're not all dependopotomi :)

And you took the words right out of my mouth. Amen.

Great post! We are currently stationed in Fl and I can see why you didn't want to live. Although I am close to the Alabama border so I'm not as far south in florida as I'd like lol

Such a sweet post!! The military wife stereotypes are just awful and a lot of it true but obviously everyone isn't the same. It can be a hard life but totally worth it when you got the man of your dreams.

Stopping by from the linkup! I'm from Pensacola as well!! and swore I'd never marry a military boy. Seeing so many people come and go made me think it was something I could never do. 6 years in and I'm so glad I did!

I love that you posted about this. Not all of us fit the typical military spouse stereotype! I didn't even realize that there were as many military wives out there on the blogging network. How awesome! Us military wives have to stick together!

Congrats on his graduation (several days late, haha)! :)

Also, I actually never had a preconceived idea of what military families looked like (probably because I spent my teen years overseas). One of my best friends from college married a guy who wanted to be a preacher... he did that a few years and then decided that he'd rather be in the military, haha! So now she's a military wife. I get most of my info on what military wife life is like from her and you. So the lives that the two of you lead are essentially what I think of when I think of military spouses (and she's awesome just like you). So there's at least one person out there who has no negative thoughts toward military spouses! :)
