All Kinds'a Fired Up!

What is one thing that everyone knows about me?
I LOVE MY SOLDIERS.
So what do you think happens when you mess with a soldier?

Well my dears, I came out SWINGIN' at an establishment called Brothers Bar and Grill.
When I heard that one of my soldiers that JUST got back from the 'Stan was kicked out for having tattoos, I was LIVID.

Within a few short hours I had spread the word, and the anger spread right along with it!
There were literally people from ACROSS the country voicing their outrage, and yet the bar was silent.
We solicited a simple apology and got nothing.
The silence only fueled us.

This is what I sent to the Brothers' Corporate office:

"This is regarding the discrimination at your establishment on Market Street today. I was personally offended when they escorted a soldier out of the bar for having tattoos. First of all, this is 2012 and there is nothing wrong with non-offensive tattoos. Second of all, that soldier JUST got back from a war zone fighting for the freedom for you to even HAVE a bar. We have sufficiently spread the word across the country, so their Facebook page has been inundated. They have refused to give an apology and have deleted our comments, thus inspiring me to inform the media. I suggest you rectify this situation quickly, because we fight for our soldiers like they fight for us. Relentlessly. "

And it was also forwarded to several different media outlets.
By 10pm I was already contacted by the Denver Post, and they are calling me today.

Now if this was a guy that caused trouble or had a smart mouth, I might not have reacted so.
HOWEVER...this is one of the SWEETEST guys I know, who also happens to be married to a close friend/co-worker of mine. I don't think it's right to discriminate against anyone, but ESPECIALLY not one of the best soldiers I know.

Moral of the story?
Stand up for what's right even if it does impede on your only day off.
It was totally worth it, and even if all I get is that satisfaction that I did what I could, that will be enough for me. My husband doesn't call me tenacious for nothin' ;)
Which brings me to the other moral of the story:
Don't. Mess. With. Me.
Haha

I am so proud of you! WTF is wrong with that person to kick a soldier out of a bar for tattoos? You tell that soldier I said Thank you so much for my freedom and let him know that his bravery is appreciated here is SF. I hope the Brother Bar and Grill suffers for this.

Thank you! My brother is a soldier, has served in Iraq and Afghanistan, and has tattoos. I think his service to our country defines him more than the ink on his arm.

Good for you for writing that letter - I would have done the same! How horrible that they would kick him out. People can be so naive sometimes.

Do they kick out anyone who walks into the bar who has visible tattoos?

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!??????????? Is this some Holier-Than-Thou bar? What is their reasoning? Do they have a sign up that says, "No tattoos allowed" right next to their, "no negros allowed" sign? OMG. Gimme their email... I'll write them, too!

Have I told you how much I love your big heart. I can't believe that a bat in Denver would ever do that. It really breaks my heart knowing that my city hosts such bullshit management

Holy crap, that is the most disgusting thing ever - don't you EVER act offended by one of our boys, just because he had tattoos! Good for you for doing this, Im giving you a standing applause for that one. Being a former military wife, I am on your page - don't ever insult one of our soldiers/Marines/Airman/Seamen especially over that stupid reason!

You are awesome! And seriously, who doesn't have tattoos these days? I mean, I don't but a heck of a lot of people do. That's a lot of patrons who don't fit the "dress code."

I just can't even imagine what decade this bar thinks it is. I don't know many people WITHOUT tattoos nowadays... It seems like a really, really, really stupid marketing strategy/business plan.

Nicole said...

Um seriously, they did that? Was he just eating there or work there or what? Not that it makes any kind of difference but geez!

Nicole said...

oh and btw, that geez was directed toward them! :). I'm proud you stood up for him!!! I just didn't want my comment taken wrong... LOL :)
