We Don't Even Have A Target In This Town!

When we first moved here, I thought my life was over when we didn't even have a Target! No mall, no Starbucks, no Costco, middle of nowhere, and they still smoke in restaurants. I may be from right down the road, but it was a culture shock coming from progressive Colorado. I was going to post an inappropriate picture about just how progressive it is, but Will vetoed it. It's really strange when he's the responsible one, but alas...I need a reel-in every now and then too.

Alright, so if Perception Is Everything, I had to find ways to like this town real quick. Luckily, it has been easier than I even imagined, and it fits like a perfect pair of new pumps which I still haven't found. Living at a lower altitude {from 6,000' down to 358'} has all kinds of perks- our vehicles run better, baking is easier, less dehydration, friends won't get altitude sickness when they come to visit, and my eyebrows have finally started growing again! It's also nice to be in a small town. Going from a population of 439,886 to  27,775 makes life so much easier! No waiting in line to eat at a restaurant, I haven't had to use my horn a single time, there are no strangers- only neighbors, and this is the kind of place that you can leave your door unlocked. We don't leave it unlocked, but it's nice to trust your neighbors, ya know.

Why do I think you care about any of this? Well...you may or may not, but it's my blog and I want to remember how wonderful this place is. I can't believe we've only been here since February, but it feels like we have made years worth of memories. We will most likely return here throughout our military career, and I want it to always feel like a home.

Sidenote: Can you believe Will is now flying those things? He has a solo flight on Tuesday, and yours truly is freaking out. I know he's amazing and all, but two weeks of flying doesn't seem like enough to take over the whole thing! Please pray for us.

Fort Rucker is the "Home of Army Aviation", which basically means that it is our home away from home. Aaaand the Southern food doesn't hurt either. Just remind me of this when I get the itch to move again. I hate PCS'ing, but I always love a new adventure.

Have you guys lived in the same place your whole life or have you moved around?

You and your amazing attitude, that's why I love ya. Always finding the good in situations :)! Small town living sounds fun, minus the lack of target, haha.

WOOHOO go Will! I love riding in a helicopter, I bet he loves flying em! I know he's going to be the best pilot ever!

Happy weekend, amazing friend!

I love that you took this outlook as opposed to getting completely down, throwing a fit and hating it all together right off the bat. It's so easy to do that, but Im happy for you that you didn't, and don't :)
Keeping Will in my prayers when flying that thing (reeeeeeally cool!) :) Hope you have a great weekend, friend!

Wow your hubs must have fun flying those helicopters. It's funny because I've been raised in Puerto Rico all my life and when I moved to Fort Bragg I was frustrated I hated this place and now that it has grown on me we will be PCSing in January.

It's great when you click with what's good about where you are.

I could never do high altitude. I don't fare well in it.

LOVE this! :) Alabama is such a beautiful place. I totally feel you the Aviation deal. You know i'm new to this crazy military life. My boyfriend flies V22's. I have mild heart attacks ANYTIME he flies. Probably mostly because i'm scared of flying. He's fearless and perfect. I keep reminding myself they are trained to do this. You're amazing girl! I enjoy your blog so much!

I'm so glad you've found things to love about your quaint town.

I've moved quite a bit, but Southern California is really my home. I love it here.

Small town life seems quite homey too and less stressful with traffic and tons of people plus target will take all your money....Well it does for me. lol

My parents immigrated to migrate... I swear, as a kid, they moved every 3-5 years! I went to 2 elementary, 2 junior highs, & 2 high schools - that's rough for a kid. No real childhood friends :( I've always called them gypsies. They've actually lived in their current home for at least 10 years - record!

Anyway - no Target?! Crazy! At least they have Internet :) that place does look beautiful! Love those pics of you two!!

Good luck for his first flight solo! He'll be great!

I'm not sure how you can move around all the time. I sadly have lived within a 50 mile radius of where I was born my whole life. Sometimes I want a new adventure but I don't know if I could ever do it. Sad but true.

When my bro first got to Rucker he thought about having me join him because I wasn't loving it here. It didn't work out mostly because I'm what most Southerns consider to be too animated and intense, but we ended up liking it there a lot. Last time I was a little tipsy I texted my friend to see if she was craving pancakes from The Diner too. Her response? "Ain't nothin' finer!"

Just a heads up, there's a Target not far that has an excellent wine selection (Junebug and Seven Daughters are my favorites) and we hate the Starbucks just off base.

I have a feeling my bro's next JRT is there. He promised a pic of the polar bear.

Oh Rucker. You are missed.

Girl, I totally know where you are coming from! No Target, no Costco, no mall, no nothing! We have to drive an hour to get to any of that! Thank heavens for the gorgeous mountains and the sweet, small town activities that are perfect for Mia!

No Target and no Starbucks?! Do you at least have a Chick Fil A?! I might not survive there, haha! Though I will say, you are awfully close to the beach which DEFINITELY is a perk! :)

I miss Rucker all the time!!! So many wonderful memories there.

Also there is nothing sexier than a Blackhawk pilot. Nothing;)

I love that you are finding all the positives of the new place. I have always lived in Mass, but I did go away to college in Ohio. I missed my family so I am glad to be back but I do love the South.

You have such an amazing outlook on things! I love that even though it was a shock to move to a place without a Target or a Starbucks you are making the most of it :D I have lived in the same town my entire life, and would love to get out one day.
