Did you know it's Women's Health Week?
With all of my trips to the doctors lately, I was pretty well informed about it, let me tell ya. I'm not going to preach at'cha today, but I thought I would like to share a few tidbits, and follow it up with a gift for your {wo}manly soul. Continue to read on to find out how ;)
...Some of you know that I was in a sorority in college, but what you don't know is that our philanthropy was ANAD or National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders. Thusly, anytime I see positive media for these diseases, I want to share. The one that struck me this week, was a new form of Before&After photos. I flippin' love it, because I'm all about women being healthy, and more importantly-beautiful, at whatever size works for each individual! Rock those curves, baby girl!
...The thing that scared the ish out of me this week was an article about Crossfit and Rhabdo. I don't do Crossfit, but I do love Resistance/Circuit training, and I have to remind myself that recovery is just as important as the actual workout. If you want to know more read the article, but basically, you should never push yourself too far and you should always give your body recovery time. With all the media pushing sexy is the new strong, we all need to remember that healthy is way sexier than kidney disease.
...The thing we are ALL affected by is Cancer. I just went for my skin cancer screening, and my Paps/Boobie check is next week. Ladies, there is no excuse to not be proactive when it comes to these things, so if you are reading this and haven't had these screenings- GET OFF YOUR @SS. Another Cancer you may have heard about is Mesothelioma, but if you are like me, you keep seeing it in the media and wonder what it is. It must be serious if I see it everywhere, so read more about it and get informed!

Okay, so now that I've scared and yelled at you, I will make up for it by offering you free ish. I haven't had a giveaway around these parts in awhile, so I said yes when little Miss Rachel told me about pimping out her hubby and his new project. Pretty genius of them if you ask me, and you guys get to win a prize of your choice in the process. If you like Coffee and/or Starubucks, then this is for you! If you don't like coffee, there's always Passion Fruit tea...my fave.
If you love love {I assume you do since my blog is significantly lovey dovey}, then check out this sweetie pie, Rachel. She talks about anything from recipes to traipsing around Europe, and I get lost in her life every time I visit her blog. It makes perfect sense that her hubby would create his own fun website for all of us coffee lovers. Moral of the story, whether you love love or coffee, they've got you covered.

I heard about the 'crossfit' disease awhile ago and it made me sad. I feel bad for all the people who aren't well informed when they join crossfit.
I love love! :)
Starbucks Peppermint Syrup and I have so heard about the crossfit thing too, which is why I am scared to death to try it.
Pike's Place Kcups....we can always use those!!
I think healthy is so much more important, something it is taken too far and it is heartbreaking. I hadn't heard of that crossfit disease, that is crazy.
got my cooter checked out and all is good in cooter land! :D
i agree, healthy IS what's important. i personally feel that we all forget that what's INSIDE is more important than what's on the outside. i fill my body with fresh, wholesome foods and lift weights to build muscle mass; i don't care what the scale says.
as for recovery, i tend to forget about that because i am so focused on training but this week is recovery week for me and i love it! yoga, walks, pilates....all great things for active recovery.

Vodka and Soda
She looks so healthy now! Anything that helps girls with eating disorders is close to my heart. Glad your sorority was part of that! :)
Also, YAY for the giveaway!! I am so excited! And thanks for all the sweet words about us. :D
thank you for posting about this. I think it is something we do not talk about enough and needs more awareness!
Who knew!?? Thanks for posting lovely!
I had no idea there even was a Women's Health Week! Thanks for the info. I had to cancel my gyno apppointment back and March and still haven't rescheduled it - thanks for the reminder!
Thank you for sharing these stories and info! Yay, women!
I kinda wanna try the verismo, so I'd probably get that!
I love when people celebrate healthy women.. all too often it seems like the "healthy look" is put on the back burner because everyone thinks that woman are supposed to have this or that perfect mold of a shape. And coffee sounds good right now.. Hazelnut.
That's so neat that this was your sorority's philanthropy. It's an often overlooked issue that can be deadly!
I would choose starbucks k-cups!
I had not heard of the crossfit thing. so so sad that people go to the extremes and destroy their bodies.
I'm huge on everyone getting proper screenings. I hate when people say "I'm healthy. It won't happen to me." I call BS. It can happen to anyone. I had been super healthy my entire life. Very fit and active, no drugs, no alcohol, ate wel, got plenty of sleep, no mental diseases, managed stress well, and was 100% happy with life. And just after turning 21, was diagnoses with a rare and aggressive form of cancer. And now, 8 years later I deal with too many complications and am at risk for esophageal cancer the rest of my life. It can happen to anyone. Obviously the first step is lead a healthy life (healthy doesn't mean skinny, it means proper nutrition, exercise and good state of mind) and the other important step is check ups and screenings. You are never too young or too healthy to not be at risk! Loved this post!!
Starbucks K Cups because I am too cheap to buy them!
What a GREAT post!
Also, I really want some bittersweet mocha sauce...
I love the before and after photo! Such a great message.
I would love to try the Starbucks Fontana Bittersweet Chocolate Mocha Sauce!
