So...We May Be Making Moves Soon.

How is it almost July?

I have been trying to enjoy every post-deployment moment, but time really does fly when you are having fun! To be honest, we are going crazy these days with the training, the month long school that Will is going to soon, my new training schedule, and now...there is a big chance that we will be moving. It may be as soon as October, or it could be the beginning of next year. Either way, I haven't been able to wrap my head around it yet. It was inevitable that we would move, but now that we are in talks to move so soon, it's intense!

I don't think we will move until next year, but we kind of have to plan for the worst just in case. We have acquired SO much stuff here, so there will be a big downsize, we will be selling vehicles {we have five at the moment}, and now we have to move Weiser too. I have never had to move a pet...Any tips I should know about?

Other than that, it is just time to really buckle down when it comes to purging and not acquiring more things. We have a monthly allowance to buy whatever we want, but I have decided to go on a spending freeze. I've done many budget/shopping challenges, so it's not hard for me one bit. As a matter of fact, I find that I have more time on my hands and can focus more if I'm not thinking "I wonder if anything good is on sale", "Where should I hit up in between errands", "I know I don't really need this, but I might in the future", etc.

We could all use a reminder to slow down on our societies materialistic tendencies. I don't know how non-military families keep their junk down, but I know I am thankful that we have to purge every time we move. It has definitely taught me the value of "things" or the lack thereof. Now I think to myself, "Would I want to move this the next time we move?" This is even going to start applying to food. We have a FULL pantry, so Operation Eat The Pantry is totally kicking off. We always move SO much food, which is silly, so now I'm hoping we can clean it out before hand. Otherwise, it's all getting donated. I foresee lot's of donations in our near future, and I'm totally okay with it.

Hopefully I can take all of this in stride, and we will be across the country in no time. I'm ready for the next adventure! Bring. It.

PS. It's probably going to be somewhere back East. Sorry to my West Coasters, Texans, and other loves. You know I would give an arm and a leg to know that I could move near all of you at some point. There's always the next move!

My family moved fairly frequently--and that really taught me the non-value of stuff!! I actually want to move away from where we're currently living--but still, I think when the time comes that the thought of actually getting down to it and settling in in a new place will be a little overwhelming! That's exciting, but moving and making plans for creating life elsewhere is a big job!

Awww, potentially moving away from the West coast. I love the East coast, though. I've been thinking about moving too lately but I'd more than likely stay in California...maybe LA. ;)

We are going through a similar situation right now, I'll be posting about it tomorrow.. It will also be my first time moving a pet so if you figure anything out, let me know! :)

Come back to FL-- and if you don't want to do Operation Eat the Pantry, just donate it (although I doubt it would do anything to your "go get 'em figure"). Rob and I have been on a spending freeze since.. well, forever!?! Our first year anniversary comes up on July 4th and I asked for a Swifter mop.. pretty sad huh? I won't cry now-- I'll save it for a private moment.

For some reason, I get a weird sense of accomplishment when I clean out a closet, so I purge our stuff often! We're always bring so much stuff in, and it's great to bring stuff out too! And we donate all of it. I also find a weird sense of joy when I go "shopping" in my pantry-find a new recipe and try to use all of the things you already have.

We also moved with a dog, and he's such a good traveler it really wasn't an issue. Just making sure that when you get to your new place, you take him around on a leash around the perimeter of your yard every time he needs to go outside. That way he gets used to his boundaries and knows where he can and cannot go. Should help!

NO you are not allowed to move as soon as October! How dare the Army set us up to swap coasts?!! ah snap! And for the purging, we spent the last month purging for this move. Lost count on the number of bins brought to consignment and then donated. Now we're on day 3 of the movers packing our home. 144 boxes are packed ready to be crated and I know I'll get rid of stuff again on the CO side. It's insane how much is collected over 3 years! We def learned our lesson. Stick with your plan, it's a good one!!

Holy cow love! Very exciting but yes the actual moving is quite overwhelming. Love purging. We just moved into our new home a few months ago but I'm itching to purge already. Good for you guys!

I'm with Erin - TN would be a winner! ;)

We've lived in our currently house for three years now which is the longest time I've lived in once place without packing up everything I own in the world and moving it somewhere at least once (if not twice) a year since I was a kid. The idea of planting roots is kind of strange to me. But anyway, we go through everything in the house at least twice a year and give away or sell anything we aren't using/wearing. Clutter bothers me so that helps cut down on it. :)

Everyone seems to be PCSing right now!! If you end up near SC, I'd love to meet up!!

Good luck with it all though, just knowing that it's coming will be a good reminder to not add more things you don't need...maybe have a yard sale before the summer is over to start getting rid of things you don't need?

I don't know how all the military folks around me do it! We are probably moving here in the near future, and I'm looking around the house thinking "Where in the world did all of this stuff come from?!" That is a huge perk of moving frequently! Keep the "stuff" to a minimum.

And there's nothing wrong with "back east!" Virginia for the win! Keep me posted if you end up in this neck of the world! :)
