I Used To Think I Was Adopted

Tis true. I knew that I favored my dad, but I NEVER thought I looked like my mom. Plus, she's what you might call a "spitfire" and "hard to handle", which were not the type of qualities I thought highly of for myself. So there I was going through my FB newsfeed, and BAM, this picture showed up and I finally saw it. What do you think?

I guess I am my mother's daughter after all.

Next, I saw this fun little link up, and at first I was like, wow, this seems easy...
But then, I was all like, dang, how do I narrow these down?!

Helene in Between

Helene is right, and music really does define our lives with its undeniable hold on us all.
I rocked out in the 90's to Ace of Base and songs like Tears In Heaven or Wonderwall, but I also remember songs from my childhood like dancing in the kitchen with my mom to Time Of My Life from Dirty Dancing and In The Air Tonight was always cranked in the 'Stang with my dad. Ooh, and Bonnie Rait...Oh how I love me some Bonnie.

So here is my attempt at defining myself through song

My go-to Karaoke song:

Journey Don't Stop Believin' {I totally sound like this...}

Favorite Disney Song:

Sarah Mclachlan When Somebody Loved Me {Toy Story 2}

The song that always makes me happy:

Bobby McFerrin Don't Worry Be Happy {one man sick acapella}

The song that never gets old:

Queen Bohemian Rhapsody

The song I dedicate to Will:

Brad Paisley Then {narrating The Notebook}

The songs that got me through last years deployment:

Lennon and Maisy I Won't Give Up {sung by the best child duo}

Christina Perri A Thousand Years

And last but not least, a song that was once long forgotten, but I recently rediscovered:

Eagle Eye Cherry Falling In Love Again

Bonus points if any of you actually remember Eagle Eye Cherry. Although, that song may not count because it doesn't actually define me...I just love singing it with someone playing an acoustic guitar.

After all these, you might wonder about my eclectic taste, but you would never get bored listening to my iPod. Especially if you go to my favorite playlist that is comprised of Mashups like this. They are what I live for in the gym.

Do you relate to any of these? Or do you just think I'm crazy?
I like crazy. Helene brings it out in me.

  1. Without listening to them, I know all but two of those songs! I will probably know all of them when I get to listening to them all.

  9. One thing is for sure - you are not adopted. You look identical to your mother.

    We have very similar taste in music! If you haven't heard Christina Gimmie's version of I Won't Give Up, you must YouTube it now. I promise you won't regret it.

  14. Those are some great songs! I love Journey "Don't stop believin!" I remember a lot of songs from my childhood that bring back fond memories. I think for me songs are attached to memories. I'm not sure if I would say they define me, but more bring me back to a certain time in my life. Not sure if that makes sense or not. :)

  15. Not even kidding, Bohemian Rhapsody is my ALL TIME favorite song. I could never get sick of that song! I heard something interesting the other day comparing some of today's music to Queen...It took 5 people to write Justin Bieber's "Baby" song and only good ol' Freddie Mercury to write Bohemian Rhapsody.

  16. Totally thought that was you! You and your mom are like, total twinsies!

    My taste of music is way out of the ball field. Some folks call me weird, but I'm ok with it.

  17. I read this about 7 and a half hours ago, but couldn't comment as I was running late for work but after reading your Eagle Eyed Cherry comment I've had "Save Tonight" in my head all day!
    I like Lennon and Maisy, they have a couple of songs on the Nashville albums. I think they both have lovely voices but I prefer the tone of Maisy's, it's a shame she doesn't get to sing more.
    There is a definite resemblance between you and your mum.

  22. Oh wow! You do look a lot like your mom! I used to think I was adopted because I was so different than the rest of my family, but as I've gotten older I look a lot like my mom and two of my sisters look JUST like me, haha! So yeah, I'm pretty sure I'm not actually adopted. ;)

    Also, great song picks! "Don't Stop Believin'" is such a great karaoke song!

  23. ACK! Lennon and Maisy gave me goosebumps! And I always thought I was adopted because I'm 6'1" and my father is 5'11" and my mother is 5'8" but now that I am older, I look SO much like my mother.

  25. You definitely look like your momma...and I have to say that I do not think I look like my mom at all but some people think I do and I am stunned by it...

    What a great idea to play with the music you love and grow up to. Music is so important and such a great way to express ourselves, how fun!!!
