Inspire Me: Healthy

A Mommas Desires And Pacifiers

Today, I have two things to share.

#1 Go pick up this book:

Do you find yourself lured by McDonald's arches?
Do the large portions beg you to finish them?
Does the thought of a chocolate layer cake send you into ecstasy?

Well, then you NEED to read this book. For me, it was my battle with wanting what I told myself I couldn't have and then overindulging on the "good food" to make myself feel better about it. Yes, homemade trail mix is a great healthy snack...that is until you eat the whole bag in one sitting!
Basically, this book breaks down how the food industry figured out how to control our minds with food and have capitalized on that while we internally struggle against them to no avail.
I'm sure this sounds like a conspiracy theory, but all I know is that I now have control over what and where I eat!

#2 Eating healthy is NOT expensive.

So eating bad is cheaper?
Is it cheaper when you add up how much you spend on eating out? Is it cheaper when you have to pay for gym memberships to work it off? Is it cheaper when you lose money missing work for sickness? Is it cheaper when you have to pay for meds when you are sick? Is it cheaper when it causes long term or fatal illnesses? Shall I go on....

Is that scary to you? Cuz it freaks me out!
People ask me how I refrain from eating out all the time, and THAT is exactly why. I can whip up a WEEK of healthy food, and spend a few dollars a day on food that KEEPS ME FIT.
Not only that, but I rarely get sick, I sleep better, I have more energy, and I'm always happy...
That makes the choice very easy.

I wonder how many of you are going to be surprised by this...I hope that many of you are, so that you can be inspired to make those changes that we have all been talking about.
Go get the book or just download it through Google.
You won't regret it!

As for my own "progress", I was hoping to lose another pound or two for next week, but so far I am only maintaining :( I'm totally okay with how I look now, but the pressure is on for finals!
Here's hopin'...

  1. this post makes me happy (:

    you are definitely on the HEALTHY track, which is what this is about after all! i love me a good, healthy, home made none advertised/controlled meal (;

and yes, when you eat properly, your body is able to heal itself.. when you eat poorly, your body slowly dies. definitely helps me when i think about my food choices...

    great post!!! keep it up!

  2. I've seen all of those before, except the book, which I now want to go buy, and they only confirm that my choice to rarely eat fast food is the right one.
Thanks for sharing those! They are fab.

  3. This is a great and inspiring post!
I have quite a few food intolerances so I hardly eat out at all, and I can't eat any type of fast food. I've really learned to embrace it because it has taught me to be careful about what I eat and to cook fresh and healthy meals.
    I hope you're having a wonderful day!

  6. Great great post. It took a really long time for me to understand garbage in garbage out, even though I was working out like crazy.

I will have to read this book, for more reinforement.

I have to admit, fast food doesn't sound good to me anymore. when I was driving on vacation I did NOT want to stop and eat. UGH, my tummy is turning just thinking about it.

I know you will rock the finals cause your are H-O-T-T HOT!

    xoxo

  8. Isn't it wild how much it is cheaper to eat at home and be healthy about it? I love this post! Way to throw it out there this is a great reminder to people!

  9. We don't eat out a lot anymore. #1 all the salt #2I usually over eat and #3 I'd just rather be at home in my jammies!! Dining out seems like such an ordeal at times so that works out in my favor for the waist line and the wallet!! When you compare Subway to McD's or othersuch healthier out to eat options then eating healthy is typically more expensive. BUT when you compare eating anything out to cooking at home eating healthy is less expensive which is the best way anyways.

  10. Surprised definitely is a good word for how I feel after reading this post, haha! I always thought eating fast food (like McDonald's) was cheaper.. I definitely know better now! I wish that I had more culinary skills.
I finally linked up with Inspire Me: Healthy this week. It took me a while to grow the balls to do it haha.
Got any fabulous healthy recipes to share?

  11. That's craziness! I say that having eaten Chik-Fil-A yesterday. Ha! I do agree that the lure of fast food is all in the mind. My husband and I say all the time how we feel just as satisfied after eating at home as we would have felt eating out. It's crazy how cheap food really is when you cook it yourself. And so much better for you, too!

  15. I love, love, love what you posted about the breakdown of fast food costs and calories! So many people use the excuse of eating healthy as expensive...and if they really put their minds to it-it's not! Sure, it may take a little budgeting and THINKING (such a novel concept for some people)..but SO worth it! Thanks for the great read!

  17. I love McDonald's haha but I don't ever eat it. Only once in awhile. Being healthy has never really been hard for me I love veggies and salads but cooking at home and not eating out is def hard for me. I've gotten a lot better since graduating college but I'm just not a cook or I get over it if I buy food. I'm lazy. So um btw I was expecting some bathing suit pics today....wtf?! Haha kidding you look aaaamazing &really if u stayed ur current weight you'd be fine I already think you're a skinny minni! Ok well were texting right now so I must go haha love you! Xoxo

  18. My family has eaten healthy for such a long time but we used to eat out a lot or just buy unhealthy things at the grocery store. Now that we eat healthier our grocery/take out expenses have been been cut in half. So many people are surprised when I tell them this because they believe eating healthier is more expensive until I break it down for them!

  19. i am totally LOVING this post girl!!

i gave up fast food almost 3 years ago and i have not eaten one since thing from any of those places!

It is so hard at first but after a while you just get use to it...and i can tell a HUGE difference in my health and in the way that i look!

ppl do not realize all of the things they are putting in their bodies! so when you find out it makes you think twice about what you eat

  20. This book looks fantastic. It is weird that so many people think that eating healthy is so much more expensive. It really isn't. All the fast food is really bad for your body and your wallet. Thank you so much for that post, I love it!

  22. I need to get on this healthy eating kick. I've been making excuse that it's so hard to with a baby, but I'm done making excuses. I am a vegetarian and eat really healthy, but I overdo it on alcohol and sweets, so I've got to get my act together. Thanks for the motivation :)
